CasaMia Restaurant, Westbury On Trym, Bristol

Our European trip seems like years ago. Desperate to keep the memories alive, Mr Smith and I venture into Westbury-on-Trym in Bristol to Casamia to see what all the fuss is about. This Italian restaurant with a hint of the French and Spanish influences has been the talk of the South West.

Brothers Jonray and Peter are self taught chefs and their imagination proved a culinary winner course after course with me.

Casamia is located down a cute alley way in the centre of Westbury-on-Trym village. Leaving the high street behind us, I did a double take believing for a moment that we were back in Northern Italy with terracotta tiles, and lush plants and the trickly of a little water feature near the entrance. We were welcomed by owner and host Luis-Francisco who addressed me by my name at every opportunity. My name always sounds delightful in an Italian accent.

We were seated in the reception area by the bar at a table and given menus and we ordered our drinks. We were left to salivate over the menu and I burst into chit chat with Mr Smith about our holiday in Italy. “Remember this and remember that…”

Gluten free is not a problem at all, and the menu is clearly written so it is easy to determine what you can and can’t have, but always check with the chefs. The food is so good that I had three – no, sorry four courses. When a double espresso is served with white chocolate with black olives then that is another course to me. We were also served Turkish Delight, but this is not for us! So enough of the chit chat, here is what I ate…

Beetroot Risotto with Ice Yogurt

Roasted Monk Fish
and then…Vanilla Pannacotta with Mango Sorbet

Now that Mr Smith and I have discovered Casamia, we have our own private Italy within walking distance.
